The functionality of wood as a window covering will change depending on the environment that you are installing it. For example, if you have a fairly modern décor, with splashings of glass, leather and metal, wood window blinds can really help to subdue the atmosphere of the house, making it more warm and inviting. If you have gone with a more traditional country feel for your home, then wooden blinds will fit into this scheme just as well, enhancing the country atmosphere.
Wood will work in just about any situation. The only time you have to be a little bit careful is if you have too much wood. Say for example your dining room sported polished wooden floorboards, a wooden dining room setting and a wooden hutch along one wall. In this situation, using wooden window blinds in this room would be going overboard, and you would be better off looking at a material of some sort to soften it up a little.
