Why Use Archival Photo Storage Boxes?

Some people like to take photographs and have a lot of them just placed in random stacks, or perhaps kept in shoeboxes. They can’t understand why someone would want to spend money on special photo boxes to keep their photos. After all, doesn’t a free box do the same thing at a cheaper price? The short answer is no, because photo storage boxes offer some real benefits for people who really care about keeping their photos in good condition. After all, photos are records of special moments in our lives, and the reason most of us take them in the first place is to be able to look back at them and remember the good old days, right? Photos are special, and we need to pay attention to how we take care of them. Perhaps the best way to store them is with the use of archival photo boxes.
Archival photo storage boxes are made with archive quality board, which should be made from acid free paper. The use of acid free paper is one of the most important criteria in storing your photos, because acid will discolor and otherwise destroy a good photo if it comes into contact with it. These archival grade boxes are quite sturdy and most are made so that you can stack them (they are meant for archives, after all). If you think you need it, or if you just appreciate the look and the extra security, you can get photo boxes of this type that have metal edges. The archive board should be enough to handle any of the stress that the photo box is likely to experience, but having stronger edges could come in handy. Another tip is to use dividers to keep the pictures in the boxes organized, as you could have thousands of pictures in each box. Otherwise, you might never be able to find the pictures you’re looking for. Make sure the dividers are also acid free.
