What to Look for When You Are Purchasing a Land Rover Auto

There are many different types of Land Rover’s out there and it can often be confusing if you are looking for your first Land Rover auto to purchase. The first thing it you have to ask yourself is what type of Land Rover you want. There is the basic Land Rover defender, or the vintage series 1, series 2, series 3. Then, there are many different variations of the basic Land Rover design. Land Rovers were designed so that each body module can be bolted on and taken off very easily so it is very easy to modify a vehicle so that it suits your needs.

What is it that you want from your Land Rover auto? Are you looking for something that offers comfort and drivability for long journeys? Are you looking for something that can tow a horse box? You need to understand exactly what it is you want. Most Land Rovers are fit for off-road adventures but if you are paying a lot of money for your Land Rover discovery then you don’t really want to be taking it through very rough terrain in case you damage the vehicle. There again, you might be buying a vehicle specifically for that purpose.

Regardless of what type of Land Rover you are considering purchasing you should know a few basic facts about Land Rovers. Say, if you’re looking for a Land Rover Range Rover for sale, although the exterior may be up to scratch you really need to get underneath the vehicle to check out the chassis. There is a Land Rover myth that states that any Land Rover will never rust. Although the bodywork on most of these vehicles is made from aluminium, the chassis of the basic Land Rover is based on the ladder frame construction. At the end of the day, this is what gives the Land Rover its strength. These are mild steel sections which are welded together. Now, although rust protection is added when the vehicle is being built at the factory, it is only a bare minimum standard and after 10 years or so it might need to be treated. This is a big job and it’s not a headache that you want straight out of purchasing your vehicle. A quick check underneath will surely show up any bad rust patches. Having said this, Land Rover is a fairly sturdy and most Japanese 4×4′s will rot far quicker than their Land Rover counterparts.
