University of Florida Acai Berry Fruit Study

The Acai berry is well known for its high concentration of antioxidants that fight free radicals in the body that can cause cell damage and lead to disease. With this in mind, the University of Florida acai study contected some tests to find out what affect Acai berries could have on cancer cells. This study utilized cells from subjects who had leukemia. Saturations of Acai berry extracts in different concentrations were added to the cells. After 24 hours, a substantial number of leukemia cells were killed. Depending on what concentration of Acai was used in each test, approximately 35 to 86 percent of cancer cells died. While it is still uncertain whether Acai berries can prevent cancer, the study definitely indicates that if Acai can kill cancer in the lab, it may be able to do the same in the human body.
