The Four Distinct Phases of the Dukan Diet

If you are planning to lose weight or you are trying to improve your health, you may start by gathering all the necessary information from a fitness blog in the internet or seek your doctor’s advice. You may also want to try following Dukan, which is a popular diet plan in France and is now gaining popularity all across America and in other European countries.

It took Dr. Dukan 30 years of research to come up with a diet plan that can help dieters achieve a long-term weight loss goal. Dukan requires discipline but this should not be hard for you as the plan can provide you with loads of information regarding the foods that you can and cannot consume during the diet. Dukan is actually divided into four distinct phases – attack, cruise, consolidation and stabilization phases. Each of these phases plays a vital role in order to succeed in the diet.

More and more people are now opting for this diet as it has already helped a lot of dieters to lose weight and maintain their desired weight. The first phase of the diet is considered as restrictive and intense. This is because you are not allowed to consume any other food type, except for those that contain high amount of lean protein. You have to know that Dukan is not just an avoidance of carbohydrates; it also requires you to consume lean meats, avoid eating cheese, fats and butter and excluding the skin from your chicken menu.

During the second phase, the diet becomes more lenient as you will be allowed to consume vegetables alternately with the foods that are rich in protein. You can include almost all types of vegetables except for starchy vegetables, such as potatoes. The third phase is where you will start reintroducing other food types into your diet, including the ones that you love to eat. Upon reaching the fourth phase, your focus in not on losing weight anymore but on how you can maintain the weight you have achieved. During this phase, you will be required to leave one day as your protein day while you can eat anything you want for 6 days.

For those who are prohibited from consuming too much protein, it would be best to consult your physician first before opting for the Dukan diet. Remember that you do not have to put your health at risk in order to lose weight so make sure that it is suitable for you before you go through with it.
