It is so easy as many of your friends and relatives will throw away envelopes and letters containing used stamps. There is no cost involved as you do not have to buy new stamps, indeed, many collectors prefer to have used stamps that are franked. Franked stamps give the time and date the stamp was used. Postal stamps themselves come in many shapes and colors. You can confine your collection to varieties of stamps, picture stamps or Christmas stamps. A friend of mine only collects stamps with birds depicted on them. Most countries have issued bird stamps and a great deal can be learned geographically about countries but also about their culture and local wildlife which is often depicted on stamps. First Day Covers are for specialist collectors who will retain the full envelope or card specially dated for the first day of the stamps issue. If this hobby pleases you then you can combine it with postcard collecting.</p>
