Styles of Patio Umbrella Light Systems

No patio is truly complete without some sort of protective shade. If you do not have the luxury of owning a patio awning, there are other things you can do. Patio umbrellas work great for outdoor shade because they block out most of the sun. They are usually placed over a set of tables and chairs because these are the places which get used the most. When coupled with a specialty light system, one can create a functional light source. Umbrellas usually mount to a table but can also attach to mounts that stand freely. This allows them to be moved around the yard as needed.

Cantilever or offset style umbrellas are capable of supporting one type of umbrella light. String style umbrella lights can attach to the umbrella onto the veins on the bottom of the canopy. The veins are the long beams which give the umbrella its shape. There is usually one string of lights for every vein on the umbrella. After connection, the lights can be connected to the wall and turned on. If the umbrella does not reside near a power source, I recommend using solar umbrella lights which obtain their energy from the sun’s rays and not a cord.

Standard style umbrella can use the above mentioned lights plus one more type called a disc light. Disc lights for umbrellas are easy to use and can be connected in seconds. Positioned in the center of the umbrella, all of its lights are directed downward. Most have a standard on and off switch, but some have dimmers and even speakers which can play music. After attachment you can leave the light on even with the umbrella closed. Users can select from different bulb colors available. The most popular is the color white because it is the most functional.
