Should You Wear White Pants?

The fashion gurus tell us that a pair of good fitting white pants is a must have staple in every wardrobe. However, just because the gurus tell us something does not necessarily make that true. Some people just don’t work well with white pants. White pants will show every spot and blemish, and some people just can’t keep up with that. Also, there are some people who have body shapes that are not complimented by white pants.

Larger people should think twice about white pants, especially if their weight is constantly fluctuating. If white pants are tights around the hips of a larger woman, they will be much less forgiving than any other pants. They will show every bump in too much detail.

People with size issues should have white pants tailor made for them. They need to be not so tight around problem areas. Or, if they are tight, linen is not the right fabric, although it is a popular choice for white pants. A sturdier fabric will hide blemishes much better.

The leg of casual white pants needs to be tailored a little better than it often is. You do not want it tapered where it is almost tight around the ankle, but you want it to hug your hips a little, then go straight down from the knee. For a larger women, straight cut pants only make them look larger. For short women, it makes them look shorter.

A final thing to keep in mind is your underwear. If you insist on wearing a lightweight white fabric, your underwear will be visible. A thong is a solid idea, in white, of course. Any underwear with white pants must be white, and not patterned. Even lace will show through as a pattern. Never, ever, wear black underwear with white pants, even if the fabric of the pants seem thick. You will look clueless.
