Power inverters are very useful devices. They convert low voltage DC electricity into 120 volt AC electricity. One reason that you might like to use a power inverter is at an off the grid home or cabin.
With this setup, where you are not directly connected to the power company, you generally produce power via solar panels, wind turbines, or gasoline generators. The electricity is stored in batteries and then converted into household electricity via a 12 volt power inverter. Not all power inverters are created equally. Some are more efficient at converting the electricity than others.
Check the manufacturers instructions prior to buying an inverter. Some are as low as 75% efficient. That’s horrible. Decent inverters will have efficiencies of 90% or higher. Get more bang for you buck and buy a good inverter the first time. Most people who try to save a buck and buy a cheaper inverter, soon end up coughing up the money for a high quality unit.
