Most common weight loss myths

Most people wanting to lose weight would check the internet. Why not? It has a lot of information, and you get to save from visiting a doctor. While the information we see on the internet seems to be very true, some are not really accurate—leading to misinformation on your part. Just like you, we make the internet our reference as well, and we understand the importance of getting nothing but real facts. So, here are some of the most common weight loss myths and the truth behind it.

LOSING WEIGHT IS ALL IN THE GENES

A lot of weight loss sites would tell you that your genes will determine how much weight you can lose. While this is true to some point, how much weight you can lose is not all about genes. It’s true that researches found out that family members tend to have the same body weight, but this doesn’t mean that workouts and diets is a lot less effective for you. If you have more determination to lose weight than your sisters, then you’d no doubt get sexier than them.

STARVING YOURSELF IS THE BEST WAY TO LOSE WEIGHT

If you think of it, starving yourself would cut off the amount of food entering your body, and this should make you lose weight, right? Wrong. When you starve your body, it will also slow your metabolism in order for it to continue working properly. This means it will burn food in a much slower rate, in order for it to conserve its resources. To lose weight faster, what you can actually do is to control your meals. Eat meals at the right time, but control the portions to have fewer calories.

YOU SHOULD STAY AWAY FROM FATS AT ALL COSTS

While too much fat will actually cause you to gain weight and maybe develop sickness like cancer, it’s not at all healthy to cut off fats from your diet. Since fat helps your body in absorbing certain nutrients, what you can do is to take in healthy fats instead. The fats found in fish, olive oil and nuts are actually considered healthy, so you might want to add these to your diet.

YOU CAN EAT ALL THE “FAT- FREE FOODS” THAT YOU WANT

While fat- free or reduced- fat foods have less fat than their regular versions, it doesn’t mean you can eat them to your heart’s content. The best way to lose your stomach fat is to lessen your calorie intake, which has very little to do with eating fat- free. In order to eat healthy, base your food’s proportion on the calorie level found on the food’s nutrition level.
