I was recently traveling with my partner in the Languedoc Roussillon area of France, which is way down south close to the Pyrenees mountain range on the border with Spain. We spent a couple of lovely nights in a small town called Limoux which is itself about half an hour from Carcassonne, another great place to visit by the way. There is some great holiday accommodation in Limoux itself but if you have the time I would look for a rental or B&B just outside the town as the countryside around there is stunning.
Limoux isn’t the most beautiful of towns in the South of France but it does have a lot of charm and feels very friendly. It’s worth just spending an afternoon on the main square where there are some lovely bars and restaurants were you can sit outside.
