If you’ve just gotten your electric guitar and want to get that “sound” then you’ll need to add a few effects pedals. There are three main effects that electric guitarists use, distortion, delay, and chorus. There are others but those are the “big three”. Distortion is familiar to everybody, it’s that raw “crunchy” sound you think of when you think of electric guitars. Delay is like a small discreet echo. It makes it sound a little like what every you play is being doubled by another player. Chorus is similar to delay, it takes your your sound splits it, delays one side and adds some vibrato to it. The effect is like many voices vs. one voice. The overall general effect is to make your sound thicker. You can probably do without distortion at first, because you can get the sound with your amp. Chorus would probably be the second thing to get, to beef up the amp sound, and delay would be next. After that if you don’t like the sound of your distortion you can always get a distortion pedal.
