I discovered a fun thing to do with the kids this weekend, geocaching! A friend of mine told me about it and I did an online search and found a few sites that got me started (man I love the internet for quickly learning new things like this). There is a lot of discussion about which types of GPS units to get, but any GPS handheld will do. Fortunately for us I already had one, and even though it is a few years old it is more than enough.
Once I had the 411 on what do to and how to do it, I found a local set of GPS coordinates and we took off on our adventure. The site was just over 1 mile away from our house and the treasure box ended up being hidden in a large stump. What a ton of fun it was! There are probably a very large number of caches local to you because tis is very popular and it is great for the kids as well
