Garage Door Torsion Springs
September 21st, 2009 by Whale

Garage door springs come in two varieties: extension springs and torsion springs. Both of these are dangerous to handle when it comes to replacing but you should absolutely have someone do the work for you when it comes to replacing garage door torsion springs. Repairing these can prove fatal should they be mishandled. How they work is the springs are attached to a rod that fits across the top of the door. The springs themselves are tightly coiled under high tension torque. When they snap, that tension acts like a rocket blast and sends the parts of the garage door spring flying. The damage is enough to rip through objects easily and can cause serious injury to someone caught in the path of the broken springs.
