Of all the different kinds of heaters and fireplaces, the wood burning fireplace needs the most tools to operate smoothly. Wood burning fireplace accessories are varied. Of course you will need your standard fireplace tool set which includes a poker, tongs, a shovel and a brush. These tools help you move around hot logs to keep a fire burning evenly and remove old ashes from the firebox. Another set of wood burning fireplace accessories that is important are those associated with logs. There are three main accessories or tools. First you need andirons. Andirons are the basket or holders for the logs in the firebox. They keep the big logs up off the ground so that it is easier to light kindling underneath to start the fire. You also have log holders and log carriers. The holders usually sit just to the side of the fireplace for extra wood that you might to add to the fire as the night progresses. The carrier is for transporting wood from you wood pile outside to the fireside.
