The most common type of fireplace screens are the ones with the bi-fold doors and hanging screen behind the doors. This style is mounted about the fireplace surround and is fixed in place. The doors are usually glass with metal edging. The doors have handles that can be opened individually or together to create a much more open fire. Then, the screen can be closed or open to access the fire.
Most of these types are used with actual, wood-burning fireplaces. Some newer fireplaces have no actual chimney and simply burn a fuel source to create heat for a room. They are mostly decorative but do provide heat as well. The doors on these models are usually sealed shut as there is no need to access the fire. The fire is simply ‘turned on’ with a switch on the wall near the fireplace mantel. These types of fireplace screens can be found in bronze or brushed nickel and stainless steel looking finishes or painted black.
