Rather than narrowing at the top, it is the same width from top to bottom. It also has reversed proportions to that of a regular bullet.

The top two-thirds of the ammunition contains the shot, while the lower one-third has the powder and rim. A shot-gun shell actually contains numerous pellets or beads of lead, steel, or bismuth. When the firearm is set off, these pellets are projected outward in a scattering pattern that is able to cover a broader range of area. Rather than having to rely on a single kill shot, these beads help assure that the target will be hit in numerous places around the focal target area.
