			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Concerns about the side effects of Takeda Pharmaceuticals’ diabetes drug <a title="Actos Users Face Risk of Severe Side Effects" href="http://chapteryou.com/actos-users-face-risk-of-severe-side-effects/">Actos</a> have escalated to the point where the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) needed to issue a drug safety communication last June entitled, “Update to ongoing safety review of Actos (pioglitazone) and increased bladder cancer.”</p>
<p>The FDA report noted the organization was “informing the public that use of the diabetes medication Actos (pioglitazone) for more than one year may be associated with an increased risk of bladder cancer. Information about this risk will be added to the Warnings and Precautions section of the label for pioglitazone-containing medicines. The patient Medication Guide for these medicines will also be revised to include information on the risk of bladder cancer.”</p>
<p>In its drug safety communication, the FDA said an interim analysis report of an epidemiological study being conducted on the safety of using Actos in treating type 2 diabetes patients. The report also showed other possible Actos side effects for people who took Actos for at least a year. Those side effects included the increased risk of kidney damage, increased risk of liver damage and increase risk of bone fracture.</p>
<p>While the increased risk of bad <a href="http://www.drugwatch.com/actos/side-effects.php">Actos side effects</a> is much higher for people who used the drug for at least a year and for those with a history of cancer, anyone who took the drug should be aware of its heightened risks.</p>
<p>The FDA instructs that the Actos family of drugs – any medications that contain pioglitazone – must carry specific, critical information about Actos. They must present the FDA&#8217;s warnings and precautions.</p>
<p>The FDA issued a black box warning for Actos, the organization&#8217;s most serious warning before it pulls a drug from the market. Saying that Actos “may be associated with an increased risk of bladder cancer,” the warning was added to the “Warnings and Precautions” section of medications containing pioglitazone as part of the drug safety communication. The FDA continues to evaluate the long-term health risks of Actos by keeping an eye on an ongoing 10-year study. The study is just past its midpoint.</p>
<p>Actos&#8217;s effectiveness against type 2 diabetes is hard to dispute. But the seriousness of the drug&#8217;s side effects, particularly for long-term users of the drug, cannot be ignored. The FDA&#8217;s recommendations in its warning, not to mention the banning of Actos, drug in several European countries, including France and Germany, point to the reasons why Actos might not be the answer for some people who are battling type 2 diabetes. And a reason why they may want to recover any damages for side effects that harmed them through an <a href="http://www.drugwatch.com/actos/lawsuit.php">Actos lawsuit</a>.</p>
