I have an older TV that does not support HDMI cables. It does have the standard yellow, red, and white audio/visual connections, but it only has one input option in the back of the TV and one in the front. My family has a Wii, a DVD player, and an Xbox that we like to use with our TV. We have been getting by with leaving the Xbox plugged into the back of the TV and switching between the cables to the DVD player and the Wii whenever we want to make a change, but over time the connections in the front have started to wear out. Obviously, we need a better solution to our problem. As a possible solution to this little problem, I have been looking into purchasing a video matrix.

What I have found is that there is not just one kind of video matrix out there. I have found some models that have three input options and one output option as well as a model that has six input options and two output options. This would mean that I could simply plug each of the cables from my different devices into a different input on the matrix, then connect the output to my TV’s input. All of the connections could be made from the back of my TV, so there wouldn’t be any wires cluttering up the front of my TV. When I wanted to switch from one device to another, all I would have to do would be to use a remote to switch from one input source to another. This would be so much easier and cleaner than what we are now doing. I need to act quickly before the video input on the front of my TV wears out completely.

I also need to act before my wife breaks down. She hates the way that having the cords hanging out of the front of the TV does not allow our armoire to shut. I hate the way that pulling the cords out repeatedly eventually leads to damage to the cords as well as to the TV. We have needed to make a change for some time now, but I wasn’t sure what to do before. Now I know that purchasing a video matrix is the perfect solution to my little problem. Another thing that my wife would be pleased about is the fact that we could connect the TV in our bedroom to the same video matrix we use with our TV. We have been debating whether we should buy a DVD player for our bedroom since we both enjoy watching movies from the comfort of our bed from time to time.

With the second output option on the video matrix we could route the signal from our DVD player in the living room to the TV in our bedroom. We wouldn’t have to buy a second DVD player for our bedroom in this case. Making one purchase instead of two just makes more sense than buying a matrix for our living room and a DVD player for our bedroom. I am sick of making do without a matrix. I should have broken down and bought one long ago. In fact, I would have bought one by now if I knew what to look for. I have dealt with this problem of juggling multiple devices with one input option for far too long. I have paid my dues; in fact, I have more than paid my dues. It’s time. I can’t wait to experience the convenience of a video matrix in my own home. Except then I’ll have to worry about my children losing the remote, but that’s another story.

New Super Mario Bros. for Nintendo’s Wii is an absolute classic of a game. While I do think that there are a few areas that Nintendo could have attended to make this the best 2D platformer there ever was and ever will be, I think that this is still one of the best video games for me, no questions. The multiplayer is the reason that I rank it so highly, but it is also the reason that I knock a few points off its total score.

This is a multiplayer game that lends itself ideally to the online world, so why in the world I hear you scream has Nintendo chosen to exclude the online mode altogether. Well I am pretty bemused buy this as well. I hope that there is a good reason coming from somewhere high in the Nintendo echelons, other than, we want to sell another game just like this one with the online mode included.

I suppose you could mention that it forces players to play with their families and be more social. But then there are gamers who live alone, and sad though it may be, there are people who aren’t able to go hang out with a bunch of friends every time they play the game, and to those players, the online would have made the game so much more fun.

Anyway, the fact that it has no online is a little bit superficial, and the game is still awesome. New power ups include the ice flower, propeller suit and the penguin suit. The ice flower turns enemies into ice statues so that you can then pick them up and kill other enemies with them. The propeller suit throws you high up into the clouds while the penguin suit lets you walk normally on slippy surfaces and also lets you swim like a… penguin.
