When I am looking to buy a gift for a new born baby, I have a check list of three basic points that the gift must adhere to if it is to fulfill its purpose – those are need, usefulness and desire. The first ‘test’ the gift must pass is that of need, are the blankets for babies that I’m considering needed by the person who the gift is for? Is the gift useful and does it serve the purpose it was created for well? Finally, would the gift be an item that the receiver would desire if I wasn’t giving it to them? It might sound slightly complicated, but trust me it isn’t. When I find a gift that meets all my requirements, I know that it will be much appreciated by the person receiving it. My system also weeds out all those gifts that are bought just for the sake of buying a gift.
