If you have a metal curtain rod and it is looking a little rusty there are a few ways to fix this without having to go out and buy a complete new rod.

For all the cleaning tips you will have to take the rod down from the wall brackets, this will make cleaning it so much easier.

  • Using a steel wool, completely clean down the curtain rod, then sand it down with some metal sand paper. Coat it in rust primer paint, then use an oil based paint to give it a final coat.
  • Use a car chrome polish or car wax to give it a good rubbing down, this should remove surface rust and the wax will make your curtain rings slide easier with less friction.
  • Mix the juice from a lemon and some salt together to make a kind of ‘metal exfoliate’, this is a natural way to clean rust.

Table Tennis Add-ons
Jun 30th, 2009 by Whale

If you have a pool table, then you should really consider buying a table tennis conversion top. This will take up no further space, nor will it cost as much as a “full” table tennis table. It is really the ideal way to deal with a limited amount of room in order to turn one game into two.

The kids will love you forever if you do this. Many like to play ping pong; maybe you have noticed. The way a conversion top works is that it hooks onto or rests on top of your normal pool table. They cost much less than their alternative, and are made by companies like Stiga, Butterfly, Kettler, etc. I’d expect to pay a minimum of $150 plus shipping and handling. Most people report that’s it’s an easy process to get them on and off, and thus they end up playing the sport whenever they feel like it.

In the end, there are only so many solutions which one can have in this arena. The greatest sport in China is of course table tennis, but if you were to go to say Japan, where they live in much closer quarters, a conversion top would probably solve many problems caused by this crampness.

The kids will end up playing for hours and  having a ball in the meantime. It’s just that fun. Most tops won’t come with a net or posts, so you may want to get those in some sort of a package deal depending on who you buy it from. Think about it: how else are you going to fit a ping pong table down in that basement of yours? Or up into that rec room?

Getting The Most From Acne Medication
Jun 30th, 2009 by Whale
You have spent your hard earned money on the best acne products and they are not giving you the results that you wanted.  Have you thought about why that may be?  For most people it is because they are not completely following the directions on the label.  In order to get the results you want, you must be religious with your routine for washing and medicating your face.  If the acne product says to wash in the morning, then wash and moisturize before bed you have to stick to that routine or you are not going to see the results you want.  If you are at a point in your life when it is hard to stick to a routine like that, either change your routine or wait until you have the time to follow it to begin treatment.

Travel Backpack Stores
Jun 30th, 2009 by Whale

An influx of imitators trying to produce good backpacks and luggage has made a crowded market out of the performance travel gear category. Cheap knockoffs that fall apart and are often incredibly uncomfortable should be avoided. There are certain companies that know how to make a good backpack, and they are rightly respected for it. Large travel backpacks should have a variety of smart features, and only the best can integrate all of them.

A store like REI, where the staff are knowledgeable and can help you with your specific needs are ideal for buying travel backpacks. They carry all the best brands and will be more than happy to let you try on any model that catches your eye. A word to the wise, REI does free pack adjustments to make them optimal for weight distribution, so ask for one if you buy a pack there. I would recommend brands like Gregory or Arcteryx for travel backpacks, be it a day pack or a large expedition backpack.

Many parts of the county have been sweltering with a early summer heat wave.  If you’re like me and you’re sick of staying cooped up in the gym and want to get outside you need to follow a few simple guidelines so you can workout safely.

1)  Stay hydrated.  Drink water or an electrolyte rich sports drink  all through your workout.

2)  Talk to your pharmacist.  Some medications both prescription and OTC can worsen the effects of sun and heat on your body.

3)  Work you way up.  Don’t expect to go full throttle on your first few workouts in the heat.  You need to give your body time to adjust.  Slow down, just for the first couple of weeks.

4) Wear the proper clothing.  Not only is  lightweight, moisture wicking the best exercise clothing but also wear light colored clothing.  Make sure to add a hat, sunscreen and sunglasses too.

5)   Avoid high traffic areas Exhaust fumes are tough to take at any time but in the heat and humidity it can be so much worse.  Also try to pick a route that is shaded.

6)  Stick with what you’re used to.  Working out in hot summer conditions is not the time to step up your workout and add something new.

7)  Use your head.  Go slow.  Be on the lookout for symptoms that you’ve over done it such as: lightheadedness, nausea, dizziness, extreme fatigue, headache.  If you experience any of these symptoms stop what you’re doing and seek medical help immediately.

Most of us love the hot summer weather.  And doing your workout outside can really help liven things up, but it can also be very dangerous if you’re not careful.  Follow these simple tips and you can enjoy your workouts, indoors and out, for a lot longer!

It seemed strange to me. I had been in and out of antique stores for several days and I saw one round glass dining table after another, covered with dust, so I could assume they had been there for a while.

Now I am seeing several in a store. I just came out of MISS MUFFET’S ANTIQUES, and I counted ten of them in there in a back room, covered with dust and some in really bad condition, with cracks and some with spilled paint.

I asked the woman, “Why do you have these tables back here?”

She answered, “What do you mean?”

“Well, would anybody buy any of these old beat-up tables. Like this for
example.”

She said, “Honey, it is obvious you know nothing about antiques and as far as I’m concerned, you can just leave my store. You have ruined the atmosphere.  This is the original location of MISS MUFFET’S ANTIQUES”

Looking For A Glass Dining Table

I’ve been looking through catalogs for weeks for a glass dining table. I never thought it would be so difficult to find what I need.

Most of the tables I’ve seen are round. I’ve seen some that are oval. None of those is what I need. I’ve even called a couple 1-800 numbers and you’d never believe what those operators tell me.

First of all they usually tell me that they know nothing about the products.  They just answer the phones and transfer calls to various extensions.

I’ve asked, “Who can I speak with who can tell me about oblong glass tables?”

Once this guy asked me,“How do you spell that?”

“Oblong?  It’s O-B-L-O-N-G.”

He asked, “What language is that?”

I said, “It means longer than it is wide.”

He said, “Man, you really know some stuff, lady.”

“Thank you. Now can you give me the extension of the person who knows about long glass tables?”

“We don’t do that, ma’am. I’d get fired.”

Fireplace Accessories for Your Wood Burning Stove or Fireplace
Jun 29th, 2009 by Whale

Of all the different kinds of heaters and fireplaces, the wood burning fireplace needs the most tools to operate smoothly. Wood burning fireplace accessories are varied. Of course you will need your standard fireplace tool set which includes a poker, tongs, a shovel and a brush. These tools help you move around hot logs to keep a fire burning evenly and remove old ashes from the firebox. Another set of wood burning fireplace accessories that is important are those associated with logs. There are three main accessories or tools. First you need andirons. Andirons are the basket or holders for the logs in the firebox. They keep the big logs up off the ground so that it is easier to light kindling underneath to start the fire. You also have log holders and log carriers. The holders usually sit just to the side of the fireplace for extra wood that you might to add to the fire as the night progresses. The carrier is for transporting wood from you wood pile outside to the fireside.

Store Gold Bullion Internationally
Jun 29th, 2009 by Whale

If you have been investing in gold bullion for some time and are now looking to store your gold, you might want to look internationally. Once again the eggs in basket cliché is important. If you have built up a decent-sized portfolio of gold bullion, don’t keep it all in the same place. We believe that for anybody, at least a part of your gold should be offshore – that is outside of any country where you live, do business or are a citizen.

Bank vaults represent pretty big risks if the bank closes. There’s really no other way to get in if it does. Do you want to end up with your gold closed up behind steel and concrete, and not even be able to access it? It’s best to keep what is in your vault box a secret, even from the banks. The last thing you want is to become a “person of interest” in an investigation in case you have to file for stolen gold from your vault box. Offshore storage of gold can be a good way to solve alot of this unwanted attention.
